  8. I stumbled across your little punkin doll and just love it! I’ve never attempted doll making before, but would love to be able to make one. I know how hideous the pattern making process is and love that you’ve shared your wonderful results with the world! Thank you. 🙂

  9. Thank you so much! I’ve been sitting on your Poppet pattern from Craftster for a while, and went to look for pictures to finally start her (mine is going to be a her) this week when I found your site. Your Punkins are sweet!

You have such wonderful talent. Thank you so much for sharing.
    🙂

  10. Thank you sooo much for this pattern! I recently lost my job and my husband has been working his tail off in over time. Police officers definately don’t make a whole lot. I was worried about christmas for our 4 girls so I have been searching like crazy for things I could make for them. These will be perfect! I can customize them for each girl. Wish me luck! Thanks again!

  13. Thank you so much for your doll patterns. It’s so sweet of you to let all of us use your precious pattern It’s worth it’s weight in gold. You are a very talented lady. I tried to design a doll nothing like yours, but it was hard, yours is awesome. I haven’t made one yet just found your site. Thanks again I really appreciate it. SharaLee

  14. i made my first punkin. the pattern and instructions were great!! thanks so much!! you made it so easy!! i know you saved me from making a lot of unnecessary steps/mistakes!! i have never made a doll/poppet before. and i found inspiration on craftster. thanks so much for making all the directions plain/simple/easy!! i love the pictures too. i am a visual person, and this was wonderful!!! i really appreciate you recognizing some of us need more instruction than more experienced crafters do.

  15. I was looking for a ‘simple’ doll pattern to make a set of Harry Potter dolls for my son’s gf for Christmas (something I know she wont have!) So when I went looking for a pattern, someone from Craftster said to look for you!
I did, and I am soooo very happy I did!
Thanks for making my life easier and for dropping off your Toy Society toys at Walmart-not sure if that will make them happier there or not but the kids will be happy!

  16. OMGoodness – I just discovered poppets and yours are WONDERFUL – thanks so much for the instructions and the pattern – I am so excited to try this!!!

  18. I am about to download your poppet pattern! I am a crafter and sewer, but this will be my first attempt at a doll. Do you have any photos posted of finished roducts that i could see? I’d love to have one done by christmas for my daughter!!

  19. Woo hoo! Thanks for posting these patterns!! I cannot wait to make my very own poppet. I want to start giving them out as gifts eventually if I get good enough…hopefully I don’t procrastinate like I do with everything else. HAH ❤ Thanks again!

  20. Thankee for posting these patterns! I’ve been combing the internet for hours to find a vaguely human-ish plush pattern, & this is definitely the best I’ve seen!

  21. Just discovered poppets in Flickr and couldn’t stop Googling since I found your page!
Thanks for sharing your patterns with us.
I have downloaded the pattern and will try to create my own this Christmas hollidays… cross fingers!

  22. Thank you so much for posting your lovely poppet patterns! I have been lurking on Craftster for years and admiring all of the beutiful projects made from your patterns. I make a lot of plushies, and I have used Craftwoman’s Elenore pattern, but have been wanting to use your actual pattern. I am looking forward to fun projects and gifts!

  23. I havw been looking at your poppet for a long time now, wanting one for my own seeing how amzing your poppet and everyone elses turns out,and I want to try ot myself. Thank you fpr allowing us to make our own. Can’t wait to make my first one and show you

  26. ghilie, I just wanted to drop by and say hi. True to my nature (procrastinator, multi-tasker and do-too-much-for-everyone-else-er) I have finished 3 of my 4 attempts at poppets and have returned to finishing that last one. #1 goes back and forth between my 2 girls and the toybox. She is very loved. #3 and #4 are much loved by swap partners – they were exhausting, detailed and absolutely fun to make. #2 is ready to joint and has changed hair 3 times. In addition I’ve received a Mad Hatter and an Alice who are so beautiful they reside on the top shelf and I pull them down to stroke their hair every so often. I thank you for this gift – it’s a gift of feeling accomplished, challenged and privy to the world of poppet makers and lovers. In between the chaos of my world, I can always take a break and give life to another poppet! Aloha!

  27. thank you so much for having this here! It’s amazing that some people are still willing to give out free patterns instead of charging 20 for them.

    (coralinevoodoo)

  28. I found your poppets on Crasftster.org. I love poppets and will make one one day. I am a little intimidated by the details. I have never made a cloth doll b/f. Thank you so much for the free pattern. I am going to pass it along to a friend that loves making dolls for her kids. Love your blog too.

    1. I just found you from apost of Dobby and the house elves.
I am disabled and can’t tell you how much I love your beautiful projects. I want to try Punkin and would love to make a house elf. You have amazing talent!!!
      Thank you,
      Toni

  29. .. there´s always something new and wonderful to be discovered around the corner….Thank you for these wonderfully detailed intructions and patterns- I can´t wait to try them out =)

  30. I am about to download your patterns and I absolutely love the poppets. I recently had a friend in the hospital fighting cancer and wanted to make something soft he could keep there. Wandering the halls I saw so many children fighting so hard and I wanted to make some of these and take them back to the hospital to give away. Sometimes the little things make the fight a little easier. Something to cling to, something normal when your world is upside down.

I will bookmark and share pics if I can, or please email and give me an email address and I will share the reactions to your wonderful dolls. Thank you so much ghilie!

  31. Thank you so much for posting the patterns (and instructions!) for poppets! I’ve admired poppets on Craftster.org for so long, and I’m excited (yet nervous) to make one of my own. Thank you so much!

  32. Your poppets are truly amazing. Sad thing is I cant sew. I have downloaded them, in case I can find someone around here, than CAN sew.

  33. Thanks for sharing your patterns! I am going to try out Punkin first. I’ve been watching the poppet craze on craftster, but I haven’t been brave enough to try. I think I’m finally ready! And I love that you are leaving these at wal-mart. I feel the same way about being there.

  34. Ghillie,
Thank you so much for the free patterns. I have been following the poppet along for some time but have been busy doing other things. I finally decided today was the day. It is rainy here and perfect for locking oneself in a room with a sewing machine and having a great time. Thanks again!!!
    Hugzz,
    Gina

  35. Sweet pattern, so cute and so very easy to customize the popped. *squees in delight* thankies for doin this hun.

  36. Hi Ghillie, thanks for the pattern! I was just looking at the poppet mini swap and found the link to the poppet along on http://www.craftster.org . I’ve been wanting to make one for ages but have been unsure about where to find a pattern. Thank you so much for this one, I won’t be ready for this round of swapping but maybe the next one I’ll be game 🙂

  37. Thank you for the poppet pattern. I really want to try my hand at making some. I love seeing all the poppets. You’re AWESOME!!! Thanks again! 🙂

  38. Thanks so much for sharing this pattern, its very generous of you! I’m just about to head out now to buy all the materials to make my very first one.

  39. Someone made me a poppet start up guide with your tute a long time ago, and I was too nervous to try it for myself. But no longer! I’m going to finally give this a shot. 🙂

  40. I’ve been wanting to make a poppet for years (literally!) I think this summer I’ll finally be brave enough. 🙂

  41. Just wanted to leave a comment to say that I adore your poppet pattern. My mom and I have been using it since 2007 to make pixies, house elf’s, and other dolls for our enjoyment and our for family members. I get a lot of requests on my blog for your pattern. And, I’ve been encouraging as many future poppet makers as I can to come over to Craftster.org to try your pattern and join the Poppet-along. It’s so rewarding and fun, even for beginners like us.

Thanks so much for sharing the pattern with us. You’ve helped to enrich and improve our doll making skills immensely.

    Thanks again,

    Mieljolie

  42. I absolutely love your poppet pattern. I’ve made several over the years and just adore them! Thank you so much for sharing.

  43. I’m really excited for the Pretty Punkin instructions. I’ve never made a poppet before but I love them and I needed something smaller to start on. Thank you!!!

  44. Great site and thanks for the patterns. As a suggestion though for the patterns you have up, could you put a basic picture of what a finished Poppet and Punkin look like.

    1. i tried to replicate the problem and couldnt. perhaps you need an update to adobe acrobat reader? Maybe you could try a computer at work or school, or maybe the local library?

  45. updated my acrobat reader I now have the printout in hand.Thank You again for
the free patterns they will be gifts for my 3 & 5 year old grandchildren for Christmas.
    Laura

  46. Seriously!! This is FABOLOUS!!!
You are so nice!!! A question: I have a plan about making a puppet-theater.
(I live in Norway). Could I use the pattern for some of the plays? If I get questions about the patterns, I could just give them the link to your blog? I just LOVE these!!!

  47. I have seen a ton of Poppets made with you pattern over on Craftster! I have got to make one for my kids. I have so many diffrent ideas and am really excited to give them a whirl! Thank you so much!

  48. I love that you share like this. I found you by way of Pinterest and a hunt for witch boots and then a cornish pixie that ended up being your poppet. lol! thank you so much for the pattern! xo

  49. How do you sculpt the faces on the poppets? I have seen many people create different features but I do not know how to do that. Any suggestions?

  50. Loving this new Cupcake doll, will straighten out the craftastrophe (gimme a few days) and test it out. Woot! You rock, as usual :D.

  51. Your cupcake pattern looked so cute. I have copied the pattern and hope to use it now that the Memorial Day of Rememberance is soon to be over.
    Laura

  52. Ghilie I have made your poppet pattern many many times and I have downloaded the Cupcake pattern. My partner in a craft swap and I are gonna make cupcakes for our daughters and send them with the poppets we are making for each other.

  53. Just curious..do you ever wonder how many poppets are running around now thanks to your awaesomeness? 🙂

  54. I just downloaded the lil’ cupcake pattern and I can’t wait to make her for my little one this weekend.

  55. Just discovered these marvelous things called poppets! wow…just wow….I have never attempted this kinda stuff before (i’m a yarner not a sewer) but now I must try, and I must make a mini me poppet of my bf so I don’t miss him when he is gone! Thank you so much for the pattern! I am reading through the craftsy posts now trying to gather as much knowledge as I can before I start!

  56. Oh my God! I saw a poppet on Craftster and just about died! Then I found you of course, and your pattern, and tomorrow I’m going to give it a go! I thought you would be happy to know that I am 16, a young, avid crafter who may have just found her calling!

  57. Hi! I have been looking for a popper pattern for quite a time now. I have just found your blog with some crafters. Thank you so much for your patterns.

  58. May I alter your cupcake pattern to make Lock Shock and Barrel from The Nightmare BC?It’s for a swap but I don’t want to change it with out your permission.Thank you

  59. I’m a poppet addict and am about to make my first Lil’ Cupcake for a swap. I love your patterns and think your a craftster hero. Thanks for all the great patterns and the ideas they create.

  60. Have been seeing poppets on craftster.org so when I found your original pattern I immediately pinned it. Other people need to see your awesome designs!

  61. WoW!! These are adorable. Thank you so for letting us have access to these cute dolls
I have recently become disable and now have more time on my hands to get back to sewing and crafting.
This is a great start that have gotten the creative juices flowing.

  62. Great blog. Came here via Craftster. Thanks for brightening my day with your funny posts and amazing crafts and thanks very much for the poppet pattern. I shall begin to fill the world with mini-mes!

  63. Hey there! Sorry if this is majorly inconvenient but I’m about to spotlight this page on a post on Tumblr. I also linked to a poppet exchange thread on crafster to show people examples of what Poppets look like without uploading someone else’s photos.

I just really love that you’ve posted free patterns and I wanted to share with my friends. I don’t have many followers (about 54 right now) so it shouldn’t blow up (I don’t think) but if it does I wanted to apologize ahead of time.

I intend on making plenty of poppets once I have the proper fabrics and supplies! I’m so stoked to try it! Once I’ve made my first poppet I’ll comment again with a link to the tumblr post showcasing it! =]

  64. i’ve been looking for something to do,i sketch and paint and embroider these are adorable i just hope mine turn out so my daughter and granddaughter will like them.thank you so much for these fantastic patterns

  65. I made one of these for my baby girl who just turned 2 in Feb. She loves it! Carries it everywhere! ❤ this pattern!!

  66. This is so lovely! Thank you for sharing. I am looking forward to making one for me niece. I will try to do a “princess” style one. 🙂

  67. Thanks so much for the poppet pattern. I’m really excited to try it. I appreciate the simple instructions since this will be my first doll making attempt.

  68. Just started my Poppet, a Chiss (Star Wars alien) female. Really thinking about other kinds of Star Wars aliens. I haven’t figured out what size safety eyes to buy yet, though. This is really a great site!

  69. Saw your doll on a Pinterest post and was hoping I could get Cupcake pattern. Thanks so much for having it available on your blog. I have a question and hope you can answer. Can this doll be made with wool felt and sewn by hand, therefore not having to turn anything inside out? I sew most of my dolls in miniature and by hand and would like to do it with Cupcake, however your thoughts would be appreciated since you created the pattern. Also, have you had the dolls made with anything that doesn’t stretch like cotton or linen?

Again, thanks so much for sharing this adorable pattern with all of us. Aloha!!

    1. I have never made one of these out of felt by hand, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I also feel that firm knits like the doe suede or alova suede are superior to cotton or linen because they don’t ravel and I can cut the seam allowances very close to the stitching. I also think the bit of stretch gives a pleasing look to the face. I would suggest, that if you want to use linen or cotton, choose a tight weave and change the face pattern slightly to round it out in the chin area. Also use fraycheck around the slit in the back of the head, or just sew the neck to the head without the slit and cover the result with hair. Cheers!

      1. I make the poppet dolls mostly out of unbleached cotton muslin, I find if you add just a little extra to the seam allowance and double over your stitches it turns out awesome and you dont have to worry about the unraveling (atleast thus far my 2yr old hasnt managed to tear her apart at the seam XD ha ha)

  70. Thanks ghilie!

The Poppet pattern is simple and straight forward! I thank you for creating such a magical little doll.

  71. I haven’t made dolls in many years, but am in desperate need of a creative outlet in my life right now and poppets seem perfect. Thank you for sharing!

  72. I am going to try may hand at your li’l cupcake. I am super excited. Thanks for sharing. I’ll let you know how she turns out.

  73. Thank you so much for your free patterns I have been making tons of different designs when there all done will send you a link to them OK.

  74. Hello. 🙂 Thank you for sharing your patterns with us. 😀 I really like the new one you posted. Making the jointed arms seems complicated. 😮

  75. Thank you for sharing your patterns. My granddaughters are going to love these little dolls. I will also be making my grandson the boy doll. I also like your alternate heads for Lil Cupcake. Thanks for making your patterns free. Love the poppet!

  76. Oh Thank you so much for the adorable little Poppet!!! I love finding gems like this, you are very talented 🙂

  77. These patterns are awesome! I am going to attempt to take elements from both of them to create a doll for my daughter. She wants something very specific and it just doesn’t exist, believe me I’ve looked! Thank you so much for making my life a little easier!

  78. I made dolls when my daughters were young. My oldest daughter told me that her young daughter (age 3) saw a video of the dolls I had made and said “Where’s Mine!” So I decided to try to make her own special doll. Your patterns are so cute! I’m going to try to make all my grand daughters their very own special doll!

  79. I’ve seen your poppets all over Craftster, but hadn’t been brave enough to try to make one. I’m so happy to see your instructions, and also some other patterns by you! The information about the freezer paper is a great help to a beginner like me!

  80. Thank you for the wonderful patterns!! I have made several dolls based on your poppet pattern printed out in different sizes and they all turned out so wonderful! I hope you are inspired to make many many more patterns, creativity feeds the mind an soul!

  81. I made a pretty poppet into a fairy for my daughters birthday. She came out so cute. I would love to share a picture but just not sure how…Thank you, your instructions were perfect!

  82. Thank you so much for your cute doll patter and instruction, i love it.
It is so nice of you to share it. thanks

  83. Love your Lil Cupcake pattern. Totally gonna make some for my little girls. I was just wondering if you had any advice for making clothes for them? I’m just getting into sewing, so this is all pretty new to me.

    1. I suggest using felt to make an A line overall dress, or perhaps a sweater out of a sock? I have been meaning to put up clothing patterns, but grad school is kicking my butt.

    2. I realize that I’m replying to an old comment, but in case anyone else comes along with the same question (like me!), I hunted around and found all the Lil’ Cupcake patterns (the dresses aren’t listed on the Patterns page). So here they all are in one list. (I hope I didn’t miss anything!)

There are two dress patterns (please see the bottom of this list). Neither of the dresses are the one she’s wearing in the pictures. (I don’t see a pattern for that one.)

  84. really thanks.
I´ve never made one of this kind of doll, I usually make Amigurumis,
I hope I can do it.
    Congratulations for your talent

  85. Thank you for the patterns. Wish I had the talent to create as you do. But, I can sew. Thanks Bunches. Keep up the great job.

  86. Your patterns are amazing! I didn’t use safety eyes for my dolls but instead, I used coloured button eyes. I love using the lil’ cupcake girl and boy patterns especially! Could you possibly make a clothes pattern for the boy doll and short overalls for the girl doll?

  87. Thank you so much! We talked many years ago on Craftster when I PMed you for the pattern of your wonderful Poppet. I have lost the digital and hard copies so many times over the years and had to find them again. I wanted to let you know that I made them for my cousin’s daughters some time back and they absolutely loved them!

  88. I saw a picture of a world of warcraft doll that I believe was made by you. I have been looking for a pattern to make a wow gnome doll for a co-worker that I have played wow with since the beginning. If you do have a pattern I may have please let me know or email it to me. That would be So wonderful… All the dolls you make are really cute and I would love to learn how to make poppers.

    1. I haven’t made any WOW dolls but I’ve seen them made with the poppet pattern. To make a gnome, that person probably just shortened the arms and legs a bit. People modify that pattern all the time!

  89. Ahhh, these are adorable, especially Lil’ Cupcake! Would you mind if I used the body shape for those for a doll I want to sell? I wouldn’t use your pattern straight out, because that would be crazy, but I really love the shape of the body for these sweeties. If you do mind, I’ll probably end up making these for myself anyway, really. They’re just too cute to resist!

  90. Thank you thank you THANK YOU Ghilie! You are truly amazing! I have been looking for a cute doll pattern to make for littlies and these are just too CUTE!
    Blessings for the fantastic downloads.
    Cheers, Moonweaver xXx

  91. Hi Ghilie, i love your patterns. I have made quite a few poppets and was wondering if it was okay if i made a couple to sell. I wouldnt mass produce as i am not a factory, only make a doll when i get a bit of free time. I have tweaked the pattern a bit and have a bit of a big bum, big hands, feet, ears and the head is more roundish. i can post a picture on craftster to show you.

    thanks

    tabbycat

  92. Thank you so much for this pattern 🙂 I have been planning on making a dollie for my 3-year-old niece, and this looks great!

  93. so excited about your pretty poppet pattern. I am using it for party favors for my son’s birthday party – modifying it slightly to make it a bit more boy friendly. His party’s not until august – but that gives me time to make at least 10. Thanks so much for sharing. I finished the first one yesterday and he is so excited, he’s having a hard time leaving it alone. I’m going to have to hide them until August!

  94. Thank you -so- much for being so kind and generous and making your pattern free for downloading! I’m working on a poppet for my nieces birthday! I love sewing but designing patterns has never come easy for me.

Question (pardons if it’s already been answered somewhere else) I’ve looked trying to find the answer but — how do you feel about people selling their creations? I would like to try selling these at a convention but I’m not sure if you created the pattern for personal use only or if you’re okay with people selling what they make.

Just curious! I really appreciate that you have made these patterns available free of charge so I do not wish to use them in any fashion that was not intended.

Thank you very much once again — really hope my request wasn’t offensive but figure it never hurts to ask when one isn’t certain!

    1. If you want to use the pattern to make a bit of cash, go ahead! Just credit my website/username with the pattern is all I ask. Also, you must not be a major toy company, haha. 😉

  95. I have had your poppet pattern for a while but never got to it. Recently we hit a financial snag and I just KNOW I can solve them with poppets 😀

  96. i love this little doll. have made several cupcake dolls and made them down to a 9″ doll to fit into the doll beds i make. keep up your good work .
thank you for sharing. judith , new zealand

  97. I downloaded your adorable Punkin pattern several YEARS ago and I don’t know that I ever got around to commenting. My apologies for that. I just came across your site again and I loved making Punkin so much that I think I will make Poppet now!! I made half a dozen Punkins as gifts and I still have the pattern all these years later. Thank you for being so generous with such adorable and well crafted patterns!!! 😀

  98. Never made a doll before. Going to use Poppet or Cupcake for an art-doll round robin. Can’t wait to see what I get back. Thanks

  99. My husband and I are moving to North Carolina and will live in the ‘Harry Potter neighborhood’ of a small town near Raleigh. We will live on Gillyweed Ct. and I am already planning my Halloween decorations. I see that your pattern can be modified for the Cornish Pixies and plan to do just that. Thank you for inspiration and a pattern to guide my creativity to fit into our new neighborhood! I am so excited!

  100. Hi, Ghilie! Thank you so much for the free patterns. I know how long this takes, and the amount of effort it requires to polish these enough to make them so easy for others to use!

Wanted to let you know that I’ve made one of your Cupcake Dolls! She’s posted on http://www.Crafster.org, in the Toys, Dolls and Playthings section as: Craft a Craftster Friend Doll: Plants and Sunshine – Mini-Gigglygirl! I used unbleached muslin and embroidered her face. I loved using your pattern. The sewn joint bends and hidden shank button arm joints are awesome! I hope you enjoy seeing her. *heart*

Hope to see more from you in the future. 🙂
