Thank you sooo much for this pattern! I recently lost my job and my husband has been working his tail off in over time. Police officers definately don’t make a whole lot. I was worried about christmas for our 4 girls so I have been searching like crazy for things I could make for them. These will be perfect! I can customize them for each girl. Wish me luck! ghilie, I just wanted to drop by and say hi. True to my nature (procrastinator, multi-tasker and do-too-much-for-everyone-else-er) I have finished 3 of my 4 attempts at poppets and have returned to finishing that last one. #1 goes back and forth between my 2 girls and the toybox. She is very loved. #3 and #4 are much loved by swap partners – they were exhausting, detailed and absolutely fun to make. #2 is ready to joint and has changed hair 3 times. In addition I’ve received a Mad Hatter and an Alice who are so beautiful they reside on the top shelf and I pull them down to stroke their hair every so often. I thank you for this gift – it’s a gift of feeling accomplished, challenged and privy to the world of poppet makers and lovers. In between the chaos of my world, I can always take a break and give life to another poppet! Aloha!

I am about to download your patterns and I absolutely love the poppets. I recently had a friend in the hospital fighting cancer and wanted to make something soft he could keep there. Wandering the halls I saw so many children fighting so hard and I wanted to make some of these and take them back to the hospital to give away. Sometimes the little things make the fight a little easier. Something to cling to, something normal when your world is upside down.

Great site and thanks for the patterns. As a suggestion though for the patterns you have up, could you put a basic picture of what a finished Poppet and Punkin look like.

i tried to replicate the problem and couldnt. perhaps you need an update to adobe acrobat reader? Maybe you could try a computer at work or school, or maybe the local library?

How do you sculpt the faces on the poppets? I have seen many people create different features but I do not know how to do that. Any suggestions?
most of that is needle-sculpted. I don’t do a lot of that, but there are many websites that explain it.
Loving this new Cupcake doll, will straighten out the craftastrophe (gimme a few days) and test it out. Woot! You rock, as usual :D.

Saw your doll on a Pinterest post and was hoping I could get Cupcake pattern. Thanks so much for having it available on your blog. I have a question and hope you can answer. Can this doll be made with wool felt and sewn by hand, therefore not having to turn anything inside out? I sew most of my dolls in miniature and by hand and would like to do it with Cupcake, however your thoughts would be appreciated since you created the pattern. Also, have you had the dolls made with anything that doesn’t stretch like cotton or linen?

I have never made one of these out of felt by hand, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I also feel that firm knits like the doe suede or alova suede are superior to cotton or linen because they don’t ravel and I can cut the seam allowances very close to the stitching. I also think the bit of stretch gives a pleasing look to the face. I would suggest, that if you want to use linen or cotton, choose a tight weave and change the face pattern slightly to round it out in the chin area. Also use fraycheck around the slit in the back of the head, or just sew the neck to the head without the slit and cover the result with hair. Cheers!
I make the poppet dolls mostly out of unbleached cotton muslin, I find if you add just a little extra to the seam allowance and double over your stitches it turns out awesome and you dont have to worry about the unraveling (atleast thus far my 2yr old hasnt managed to tear her apart at the seam XD ha ha)

I made dolls when my daughters were young. My oldest daughter told me that her young daughter (age 3) saw a video of the dolls I had made and said “Where’s Mine!” So I decided to try to make her own special doll. Your patterns are so cute! I’m going to try to make all my grand daughters their very own special doll!

Love your Lil Cupcake pattern. Totally gonna make some for my little girls. I was just wondering if you had any advice for making clothes for them? I’m just getting into sewing, so this is all pretty new to me.
I suggest using felt to make an A line overall dress, or perhaps a sweater out of a sock? I have been meaning to put up clothing patterns, but grad school is kicking my butt.

Your patterns are amazing! I didn’t use safety eyes for my dolls but instead, I used coloured button eyes. I love using the lil’ cupcake girl and boy patterns especially! Could you possibly make a clothes pattern for the boy doll and short overalls for the girl doll?

I saw a picture of a world of warcraft doll that I believe was made by you. I have been looking for a pattern to make a wow gnome doll for a co-worker that I have played wow with since the beginning. If you do have a pattern I may have please let me know or email it to me. That would be So wonderful… All the dolls you make are really cute and I would love to learn how to make poppers.
I haven’t made any WOW dolls but I’ve seen them made with the poppet pattern. To make a gnome, that person probably just shortened the arms and legs a bit. People modify that pattern all the time!

Ahhh, these are adorable, especially Lil’ Cupcake! Would you mind if I used the body shape for those for a doll I want to sell? I wouldn’t use your pattern straight out, because that would be crazy, but I really love the shape of the body for these sweeties. If you do mind, I’ll probably end up making these for myself anyway, really. They’re just too cute to resist!

Hi Ghilie, i love your patterns. I have made quite a few poppets and was wondering if it was okay if i made a couple to sell. I wouldnt mass produce as i am not a factory, only make a doll when i get a bit of free time. I have tweaked the pattern a bit and have a bit of a big bum, big hands, feet, ears and the head is more roundish. i can post a picture on craftster to show you.

so excited about your pretty poppet pattern. I am using it for party favors for my son’s birthday party – modifying it slightly to make it a bit more boy friendly. His party’s not until august – but that gives me time to make at least 10. Thanks so much for sharing. I finished the first one yesterday and he is so excited, he’s having a hard time leaving it alone. I’m going to have to hide them until August!

Question (pardons if it’s already been answered somewhere else) I’ve looked trying to find the answer but — how do you feel about people selling their creations? I would like to try selling these at a convention but I’m not sure if you created the pattern for personal use only or if you’re okay with people selling what they make.
Just curious! I really appreciate that you have made these patterns available free of charge so I do not wish to use them in any fashion that was not intended.

i love this little doll. have made several cupcake dolls and made them down to a 9″ doll to fit into the doll beds i make. keep up your good work .

I downloaded your adorable Punkin pattern several YEARS ago and I don’t know that I ever got around to commenting. My apologies for that. I just came across your site again and I loved making Punkin so much that I think I will make Poppet now!! I made half a dozen Punkins as gifts and I still have the pattern all these years later. Thank you for being so generous with such adorable and well crafted patterns!!! 😀

My husband and I are moving to North Carolina and will live in the ‘Harry Potter neighborhood’ of a small town near Raleigh. We will live on Gillyweed Ct. and I am already planning my Halloween decorations. I see that your pattern can be modified for the Cornish Pixies and plan to do just that.
